On the 1st of February 2019, Grade 5 students held a Mini-Exhibition as a celebration of their learning. This year, the transdisciplinary theme chosen was “How the World Works”. The central idea was “Changes in the Earth and its atmosphere have impacts on the way people live their lives.” The students worked in groups and conducted in-depth research about the chosen topics, including volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, glaciers, erosion and global warming. We realised that because Indonesia is located in the Ring of Fire, it is very important for us to understand the characteristics of natural disasters, as well as other changes that occur in the Earth and its atmosphere.

In the opening performance, the students sang the song “Lean On Me” from Bill Withers which was dedicated for the survivors of the natural disasters that happened recently in our country. We also sold merchandise (tote bags and pouches) with pictures designed by the students. The profit would be donated for charity.

There were a lot of things that the students learnt during the process; how to find relevant information, work with others, share responsibilities and present their research findings. We thank everyone who has supported this event and for the positive responses and feedback.
