Grade 2 Students Visiting Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi dan Geofisika (BMKG)

On Thursday, 16 March 2017, Grade 2 students and teachers had a chance to visit Badan Meteorologi, Klimatologi dan Geofisika (BMKG), which is located in Kemayoran, Jakarta Pusat. This excursion helped the students understand the topic under the theme “How the World Works” we had explored, with the central idea “Weather impacts our daily lives”.

Before we went to BMKG, the students had recorded their understandings at the beginning of the unit (pre-assessment) to assess their background knowledge. We also had some learning experiences (observation using wall thermometer, interview, research from books and the internet and discussions). Then, we listed some questions we wanted to ask during the excursion. Ibu Ririn, the public relation officer at BMKG engaged the students to discuss questions that had been sent before. Then, she presented some data about weather in Indonesia. She also gave chances to the students to try the earthquake simulator, visit geophysics station and taman alat. In the end of the session, the students had a reflection and made a report about their visit. Now, we really understand that weather impacts our daily lives.
