Grade 7 Excursion to Singapore

Our grade 7 students had a meaningful three day exursion in Singapore recently. They visited several  government institutions such as the URA (Urban Redevelopment Authority), where students observed both the development and the planning for the future. They also visited the Marina Barrage and NEWater. Where students observed the technology wich is applied to the process of recycling water. The National Library was also on the agenda. Where students were not only able to browse the collection but were also able to see the up to date systems being used  these.

Grade 2 Student Led Conference

On the 26th and 27th March, 2013 Grade 2 held their SLCs (Student Led Conference). During the SLC, students have the opportunity to show confidence and pride in their work. Students are able to show responsibility for their own work. We set up 4 stations for parents, namely portfolios, maths (they explained their maths project to their parents), Indonesian (they explained how they followed instructions) and English (parents watched a video where students performed the poem “My Shadow” by R. L. Stevenson). The SLC also gave parents the chance to speak to single subject teachers about their child’s work if they choose to do so.

Maths Summative Asessment

Grade 2 students have just completed summative assessment task in maths. Our Central Idea is  “Shapes and the space around them can be described and manipulated”. Our Lines of Inquiry are Describing location, Characteristics of 2D and 3 D shapes and The transformation of shapes. Each student was so enthusiastic to create something from old boxes. Before creating an object, they made a plan. They also wrote the procedure and decorated their creation. After finishing they shared with their friends. They explained what shapes they had used to make the object and their understanding of shapes and space has been enhanced.
