Grade 3 students have just explored a unit under the transdisciplinary theme “How the World Works” with the central idea “The properties of matter affect the way they can be changed and the way they can be used”. One of the learning experiences involved exploring properties of matter in the science laboratory. Some stations were set up by the teachers and in turns, the students observed the experiments. There were stations about changing states of matter, solubility, viscosity, magnetism and electrical conductivity.

On Friday, 14 November 2014, Sekolah Pilar Indonesia held its first fire drill for this semester. Under Pak Lucky's command, all students, teachers and staff practised the evacuation for a fire or other emergency. Prior to the drill, the teachers explained to the students the steps they needed to take and showed them the exits to safe zones. The most important thing is not to panic and follow the instructions of the fire wardens.

Reception students had just explored a unit with the central idea "We make choices to keep ourselves and others safe". In the unit, they investigated safety in different places, making safe choices and people who can help us. The inquiry involved exploration about personal safety. Thus, the school invited Ibu Reneta Kristiani, a child psychologist, to explain about things they have to do to keep safe. The students received age-appropriate information about sex education and important strategies when facing dangerous situations. We even had role plays where students had to practise refusing a stranger's persuasion, saying "no", running to a safe place and asking for help. Safety is number one and we wanted to make sure that the students understand the importance of keeping themselves and others safe.
