Grade 1 students aGr 1re currently exploring a unit under the transdisciplinary theme “How The World Works”. The central idea was "Knowledge of the impact of forces helps us to understand how the world works”. We integrated the unit with Maths (measurement strand).

Gr 1

In one learning experience, we wanted to know the influence of the forces on the distance the toy car moves. We held car race. The students were divided into five groups. Every group had the opportunity as a player to race the toy car, a recorder who writes all the results of the distances travelled, and a measurer who measures the distance the toy car moves. Every group was allowed to take turns doing their job. After that, we discussed in the classroom. We concluded that every car can move differently, it is based on how the player forces or pushed the toy car.

Grade 3 students have just explored a unit under the transdisciplinary theme “How the World Works” with the central idea “The properties of matter affect the way they can be changed and the way they can be used”. One of the learning experiences involved exploring properties of matter in the science laboratory. Some stations were set up by the teachers and in turns, the students observed the experiments. There were stations about changing states of matter, solubility, viscosity, magnetism and electrical conductivity.

On Friday, 14 November 2014, Sekolah Pilar Indonesia held its first fire drill for this semester. Under Pak Lucky's command, all students, teachers and staff practised the evacuation for a fire or other emergency. Prior to the drill, the teachers explained to the students the steps they needed to take and showed them the exits to safe zones. The most important thing is not to panic and follow the instructions of the fire wardens.
