Last Wednesday, the students from Le Fevre High School had another excursion. They visited Taman Mini Indonesia Indah and learnt the cultures of the diverse ethnic groups in Indonesia. They also had fun ice skating at Bintaro Jaya Xchange Mall. Today, in the morning, the students and teachers went to a market nearby our school and bought ingredients for the cooking class. Facilitated by Pak Aji, the students cooperated to cook fried rice and make mixed fruit drink.

One of the teachers from Le Fevre High School, Ibu Sarah, was invited by Early Childhood Centre (ECC) to meet the students. Ibu Sarah taught the students the song “Rock-a-bye Your Bear” and learnt the song “Satu-Satu Aku Sayang Ibu” from the students. The teachers also went to Grade 6 and shared about life in Australia. The students actively participated and asked a lot of questions.

In the afternoon, the farewell ceremony was held. High school students and host families attended the ceremony. Students from Le Fevre High School performed the song they had rehearsed, I Want To Hold Your Hands by the Beatles, and combined the modern and traditional instruments in the performance. The students from our sister school, Sekolah Insan Prima, also performed three songs. They played the instruments called “kentongan”, which originated from Banyumas, Central Java.

The students were also given the opportunity to thank their host families and shared their feelings about the programme. This one-week programme has given benefits, not only for the students who participate, but also students in other classes, teachers and even the local community. Caring and open-minded young people from Australia and Indonesia have become best friends and learnt from each other. We kindly thank all parties who have been involved in making this exchange programme possible. We hope in the future, the friendship will become even stronger and the exchange programme will continue to take place.
