On Saturday, 16th of March 2019, Sekolah Pilar Indonesia held an Art Festival for charity. With the title of Pasar Seni Pilar Peduli: Kita, Seni, dan Berbagi, the event was wrapped in Betawi culture. It was opened by the performance of Ondel-Ondel Betawi from Sanggar Deprok. "Gambang Kromong" music was played by the musicians when the ondel-ondel performed dances. Next, the audience was entertained by "Lenong Anak Pilar", performed by grades 3 until 6 students. The performance was designed based on the topics of their units of inquiry. With the message of appreciating our culture, Lenong Anak Pilar asked us to reflect whether we have taken part in learning about and preserving our own culture.

High school students also took part in the festival by performing a medley of traditional songs and having a band performance. There was also a jam session, in which some parents performed with the students. It was an amazing collaboration! We would like to thank Bapak Virgiawan Listanto (Iwan Fals), Bapak Akhadi Wira Satriaji (Kaka Slank) and Bapak dr. Raden Soekowerdi Nindito D. M.A.R.S for the participation in the jam session with our students, Raya Rambu Rabbani and Bintang Dewana Mahesworo Nindito. We also like to thank Bapak Henri Munir (parent) and Kak Rama Tulong (alumnus) for the testimonials shared.

After the performance, the tie dye quilt auction followed. Facilitated by Ibu Aida and Ibu Ari Nurul who had helped us with the quilt making process, three quilts were auctioned. The audience participated enthusiastically. The quilts were made by grades 3 to 5 students from tie dye patches. The money raised from the auction will be used for charity.

Parents were then led to see the galleries, where students' artworks were displayed. The artworks included paintings, photographs, as well as batik cushion covers. While parents visited the galleries, primary students had art-themed workshops facilitated by parents. These workshops were about decorating cupcakes, bead weaving, making handicrafts, t-shirt painting and tie dye. Thank you very much parents, for the workshops! The students loved creating artworks. They learnt new things and had the opportunity to develop their creativity. While the primary students had their workshops, high school students had a fashion show, displaying their batik designs and Betawi traditional costume and band performances. The audience could watch the performances while enjoying foods and drinks sold at the bazaar.

Some parents also participated in a tie dye workshop. They chose their own patterns and colours for their scarves. The results were lovely!

We really hope every one enjoyed the event and was motivated to express themselves through arts. Thank you very much parents, students and other parties for the support and appreciation. We are very grateful for your participation in this art festival for charity.
