Cimory, Here We Come!

On 4th May 2017, Kindy students had the opportunity to explore more on how “Food is transported and processed before it is consumed” under the transdiscplinary theme of “How We Organize Ourselves” by visiting Cimory Riverside Dairy Farm in Cipanas. We were all very enthusiastic about the trip!

Reception Students Expressing Themselves through Stories

“Reading is a journey, not a level. It’s a discovery, not a test score. It’s a way to get lost and a way to get found” - Kylene Beers

This proverb reminds us on the wonderful journey that we can experience from reading. In the Early Childhood Centre (ECC) of Sekolah Pilar Indonesia, Reception students enjoyed a great time exploring a unit with the central idea “Stories can engage their audience and communicate meaning” under the transdisciplinary theme “How We Express Ourselves”. We read some traditional and modern stories to get an understanding about the elements of stories. We interpreted stories through role plays and puppet shows. To deepen our understanding on creating a good story, we invited a guest speaker, Ibu Resty, a managing editor of a company called We got many insights from this session too.

Learning to Create Stories

Reception students have been exploring a unit with the central idea “Stories can engage their audience and communicate meaning” under the transdisciplinary theme “How We Express Ourselves”. They have listened to many kinds of stories that were read by the teachers. They have also learnt the elements of a story and made simple stories.

ECC Excursion to Sea World, Ancol

On the 29th of November 2016, ECC students and teachers went on an excursion to Ancol Sea World and Ancol beach, which is located in Taman Impian Jaya Ancol, Jl. Lodan Timur No. 7 – North Jakarta, to deepen our understanding about sea animals and habitats. Kindy and Reception students are currently exploring a unit under the transdisciplinary theme Sharing the Planet, with the central idea "Living things needs sea to survive" for Kindy Class, while the central idea for the Reception Class is "When interacting with natural habitats, humans make choices that have an impact on other living things."

ECC Parent Presentation: Save Our Ocean

On Friday, 18 November 2016, ECC students proudly presented what we have learnt in the Unit of Inquiry under the transdiciplinary theme “Sharing the Planet” at our Parent Presentation. Kindergarten and Reception classes collaborated in the form of a simple drama, songs and movements. The drama persuaded everyone to work hand in hand to take care of the sea in order to maintain the habitat. All of the students were very confident and were risk-takers to share what they have learnt.
