Why did we choose the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme for our students at Sekolah Pilar Indonesia?
After looking at many different programmes and focusing closely on the aims and objectives of each, the Management Board chose a programme which was very closely aligned with their own personal philosophy of education. This programme was, of course, the International Baccalaureate and once the decision was made to implement this programme, the journey began.
When new students are accepted for enrolment and teachers are hired, the management considers carefully whether each individual has the beliefs about education which will match those of the school.

The Mission Statement of The International Baccalaureate
The International Baccalaureate Organization aims to develop inquiring, knowledgeable and caring young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect.

To this end the IBO works with schools, governments and international organizations to develop challenging programmes of international education and rigorous assessment.

These programmes encourage students across the world to become active, compassionate and lifelong learners who understand that other people, with their differences, can also be right.

Students at Sekolah Pilar Indonesia are aware of their own culture and proud of their heritage. At the same time, they are also ready to strive to be part of the global community and to contribute to the advances of the modern technological age.
By beginning their journey to become a member school of the International Baccalaureate, students, teachers and parents have committed to developing a set of personal values which will lay the foundation for the establishment of international-mindedness. The attributes of an internationally-minded person can be found in the learner profile and our curriculum is designed to encourage the demonstration of these characteristics as a way of responding to challenges of the 21st century.

To develop the characteristics of the learner profile and become internationally-minded we strive to be:

  • Principled : We follow the rules; we are honest and fair
  • Balanced : We find balance in our lives by working, resting, having fun and getting exercise
  • Knowledgeable:  We love to find out new things and can remember and use our learning
  • Caring : We care about the well-being of other people, of animals and of the environment
  • Open-Minded : We try to understand how others think and feel; we accept that they may be different from us
  • Reflective : We think about our own learning and improve when we can
  • An Inquirer : We are curious and ask lots of questions; we enjoy learning
  • A Thinker : We are thoughtful and solve problems by considering all the possibilities
  • A Risk-Taker : We are courageous and ready to solve problems; we defend our principles
  • A Communicator : We express ourselves confidently; we can speak more than one language
