How We Express Ourselves: Grade 6 Primary Years Programme (PYP) Exhibition and Grade 5 Exhibition

Last Friday, Grades 5 and 6 students celebrated their learning journey by conducting a Primary Years Programme (PYP) Exhibition for Grade 6 and Grade 5 Exhibition. These two exhibitions highlighted the unit of inquiry of "How We Express Ourselves", focusing on how people use different art forms to express themselves. In the opening performance, two groups from Grade 6 performed their action, which were fashion show and an acoustic session. Following these performances, Grades 5 and 6 performed the finale song titled "Ekspresi". It was a really great song that really portrayed their enthusiasm to express themselves through different ways.

Grade 6 Students Learning about Tie Dye Technique

In Art, Grade 6 students have learnt about tie-dye, a technique to produce patterns in a piece of cloth by tying parts of it to shield it from the dye. Facilitated by the Art teacher, Pak Sandi, the students showed their creativity in creating different patterns and combining the colours for their scarves. After listening to the step-by-step instructions, the children folded or twisted the fabric and tied it to create the patterns they liked. The next step was colouring. They chose from the three colours provided: purple, yellow and green. Then, they dried the fabric in the sun to make the colours vibrant. The last step was to soak the fabric in a fixative and rinse it thoroughly.

Grade 7 Learning about Materials and Their Properties

Grade 7 have explored a unit about materials in Science. In the beginning of the semester, they started to discuss about the different materials used as food containers and cups. Later on, they had an investigation in the science lab and identified different kinds of materials such as glass, ceramic, plastic, fiber and metal. They then explored further to make connections and understand more about the properties of materials.

Grade 6 Learning about Magnetism

Science helps us to understand how the world works. In Science, Grade 6 students have learnt about magnetism. Through hands-on activities, the students explored this fascinating invisible force. Facilitated by Ibu Restu, they discussed about the causes of magnetism, magnetic field or the area around a magnet with magnetic force, different types of magnets, as well as how magnets are made.
